St Joseph -Waconia

St Joseph's church did a major restoration. They needed a sound system that wouldn't detract from the beauty of the church. We designed a distributed speaker system that allowed speaker mounting high on the two rows of columns.

A second system was installed to act as a monitor for the choir.

In a system that had many delays and sends with different levels and EQs a "smart" sound system was needed. Automated mixer operation was needed as a sound system operator was not always available.

The speakers were painted to blend into the decor to provide a nearly "invisible speaker system.

A variety of Bose speakers were used to fill the hard to cover areas and as monitors. Bose speakers are designed as a "family" of loudspeakers. They all subscribe to the same design philosphy. Since they sound similar-the frequency response range and the coverage patterns are the only real difference-they can be used throught a system and still maintain the smooth coverage customers demand.

We used a Crown IQ system as a central controllable "brain" to perform many of the tasks required by the users. Distributed intelligence in the for of plug in PIP cards was used for speaker processing. All components were installed in s steel rack.

EMI Audio set all of the controls using a laptop spectrum analyzer. Once set, the EQ settings are locked to prevent tampering. The volume controls on the mixer (the silver component in the picture to the right) are customer accessable.
