St Michaels-Madison
After St Michaels had undergone an extensive restoration, we were called upon to remove the old large speaker cluster and replace it with a new sound system.

The customer wanted high quality sound. The room was very reverberant so much time was spent with the computer model to get the maximum intelligibility.

After the best combination of speaker selection and performance was choosen, the design was sent to the customer for final approval.

The final result was a combination of good sound and almost invisible speakers.

This system is a distributed system with front speakers and another set of speakers half way back. There was concern with the folks at St Michaels that ant speakers would have an negative impact on the newly restored church.

We made sure the speakers were installed in a manner that made them almost invisible.

Bose Panaray 502 speakers were hung with aircraft quality cable. This allows the speakers to be closer (better intelligibility) to the listeners. It also positioned the speakers just slightly lower then the lights in the room.

The speaker blend in with the hanging lights. This design eliminates the need for large obtrusive speakers boxes.

The key to good intelligibility is to get good direct coverage. The computer model helps determine the speaker placement for the best direct coverage possible.

As in all installations, the packaging of the electronic equipment to provide a secure, easy to use system (and sometimes tamperproof) is an often overlooked part of system design.

Computer modeling experience is the essential to good design.
