St Stephens - Edina - Church Sound System

St Stephens had a ten year old sound system. They had many complaints about the sound quality. To most parishioners it just sounded bad! It was an example of many older sound systems that we see. It was made of reasonable quality components in a poorly designed system. Their strong music program finally demanded a new sound system.

We met with the church and showed them how we could install a new system that would bring them up to Code and provide them with features and quality beyond their expectations. Using Bose Modeler we designed a full range system that was flexible, simple and reliable.

Their new sound system "Fills the room with wonderful sound."

The information below spotlights some of the major components of this installation.

One of the secrets of designing a good sound system is to use the minimum number of speaker components to accomplish the goal. Large stacks of speakers are usually installed by those who are unsure of the results. The success of the sound systems we install are a direct result of our experience and the use of tools such as Bose Modeler and Auditioner. We provide all of our customers with state-of-the-art sound system design.

Two Bose LT-9403 full range speakers (shown to the left) were used for the main sound system. They were hung near the peak of the room over the altar area. There relatively small size (and the skill of our install crew) makes the system almost invisible.

Additional sound coverage for the choir is provided by delayed Bose 402 speakers. (right)

An Allen and Heath 32 channel audio mixer is used for full services and is operated by members of the staff.
The hanging choir mic to the right is a Shure MX 202. The lectern mic is a mounted version (MX412C) of the samel mic.
Wired (Shure Beta 87s, 57As, 58As, and SM 81s) and wireless (Shure ULX receivers with Beta 87s, Countryman E6s) mics are used.
Our wireless installations always include antenna combiners and remote antennas. There is no "sea of antennas"! The remote antennas are located where reception is best and they won't be an eye sore.

The main equipment rack (left) looks complicated but holds very efficient sound system components.

From the top-the Bose Control Space unit (top) provides easy to use functions when a sound system opereator is not available. Eight Shure wireless mic receivers are next. The Bose Control Space processor serves many functions. The next two units are used for remote turn on of the system. At the bottom are the amplifiers used for the main (and some remote) system.

Above is a Control Space control panel. This unit has caused a revolution in control design. Where complicated routing or numerous components were previously used, we now install this simple to use controller. It is easily changed, provides almost every audio processing function you can imagine and makes sound systems user friendly.

We have retro-fitted many sound system with Control Space. It can often save a sound system from replacement.

As always, every installation includes instruction and all associated manuals. Our customers rave about the quality of our installations and our polite install crew. We ALWAYS leave the room as clean as we found it.
