St Thomas Schoenecker Arena

The sound system for the Schoenecker arena combines many of the ideas and same type of equipment used for the Field House and the Aquatic center.

It is a distributed system where there is no central source of sound. Like the Field House it uses many large format speakers hung from the ceiling grid.

The room also has specific seating areas that are covered by using many smaller speakers.

Making these different speakers and areas work well in unison is the key to this systems sucess.

Three different nodels of Bose LT speakers were hung and carefully aimed from the ceiling.

Six Bose LT 6400 speakers were used. they are a 2-way, mid/high-frequency loudspeaker with a nominal 60° x 40° coverage.

The four Bose LT 9400 in this system are similar to the 6400 models but have a 90° x 40° coverage pattern.

Four Bose LT MB-12 speakers were used for low frequency reinforcement (bass in the 40 to 280 Hz range).

A total of 31 Bose DS-100SE loudspeakers cover the two smaller raised seating areas and the edges of the court. The Band Mezzanine and the press balcony also have their own coverage and controlled sound.

All of these different zones (nine in all) can be independantly controlled.

To make a system with this many components used to require many equipment racks full of electronic equalizers and audio delays. The advent of reliable audio microprocessor controls has been an invaluable tool that eliminates the noisy and complex solution of the not so distant past.

A Bose Controlspace processor was used to make all of these different areas and styles of speakers work as a system. Along with it's processing power, It also contains digital mixer sections.

We use this piece in almost every installation. It replaces almost all electronic equipment short of the power amplifiers.

Nine Crown CTs power amplifiers are used to power to the different speakers and zones in this system. A total of 14,000 watts assures the sound quality and longevity needed.

Wireless hand held and headset mics are part of this system. A CD player and an ipod input are provided for pre-recorded program material.

This space has a sound system that performs to a very high standard. The quality of the products used and the design expertise and experience of EMI Audio along with the customers dedication to a superior end product have made this possible.
