An equalizer (EQ) is a fancy name for tone controls.They
come in two types: graphic and parametric.

Graphic equalizers affect certain preset frequencies (tones) and can increase or decrease the volume of those frequencies. They are easy to use for preventing feedback.

Parametric EQs can also tune in a certain frequency and let you determine how much of the frequencies you want to affect. Many mixers have tone controls like this.
